Job Description Based on our internal equity review process, the starting salary for this position will be $36.61 The current full hourly range for this position is $36.61 - $39.40
Sign Language Interpreters for Metro Parks Tacoma help meet reasonable accommodations for our Deaf and Hard-of-hearing participants and staff by providing quality interpretation services in activities, trainings, classes, and more. Hours are variable and depend on the number of requests for Sign Language services received at that time. Interpreters must be able to quickly and effectively interpret directions, information, and conversation in noisy, fast paced, and stimulating environments and be proficient in ASL sign. Certification is not required if the candidate has proven proficiency through years of experience. Interpreters must be reliable, able to self-manage their schedule of jobs they have accepted, and have excellent communication and customer service skills. Work where you play! Position Information Perform ASL sign language interpretation for participants.
In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
- Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
Essential Duties This position is responsible performing ASL sign language interpretation for participants in Metro Parks programs who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Interpreters are a part of the Inclusion team, providing inclusion assistance and communication between participant, coach/instructor and Inclusion Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications - Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to quickly translate directions (ex: swim lessons) in a noisy, fast paced, stimulating environment
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in ASL sign

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
- Work various schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, and afternoons.
- Ability to communicate with district employees and customers.
- Noise level is moderately loud
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking, kneeling and/or crouching to demonstrate proper form.
- Ability to navigate emergency situations, including performing CPR.
