Integrity Educational Services is currently seeking a Registrar/Student Advocate/Transition Coordinator   to serve Hope Academy of West Michigan!

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Registrar/Student Advocate/Transition Coordinator’s primary focus is to provide support for students at risk and their guardians. This position will also work with school building staff (principal, teachers, social workers and other team members) to advocate for the rights of children at risk. This position will be responsible for career and transition planning for special education and general education students. S/he will also coordinate the Education Development Planning (EDP) process using the Career Cruising or other applicable career planning tool. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Registrar:

  1. Build the Master Schedule - Coordinate the scheduling process with teachers and other school staff to assure students are being scheduled in appropriate courses; Develop and change schedules
  2. Pre-register existing students for classes; Evaluate new student transcripts, then enroll and schedule new students. Each semester, perform student credit audits.
  3. Once student leaves the current school site, the Registrar contacts the next school the student will be attending to facilitate the transition (including credits earned transfers from current school site to receiving school district).
  4. Coordinate assessments (MSTEP, MIACCESS, NWEA MAP, SAT, etc.) and assure all compliance requirements are met.
  5. Proctor assessments and train others to assist in proctoring assessments. Ensure state assessment participation rates are achieved.

Student Advocate:

  1. Assist with team approach (student, parents/guardians, probation officers, teachers, advocate and school principal) to assess an appropriate intervention plan (including pathway to high school graduation and post- secondary options) and participate in the discussion regarding appropriate intervention
  2. Meets with identified students to seek suitable options to help resolve Reports and articulates student needs/concerns, with appropriate parties.
  3. Demonstrated ability to implement school process and
  4. Assist students with being proactive in making choices that will lead to their academic growth and success and, ultimately, graduation.
  5. Assist with transition of students including making sure learning plans/goals and other student data is communicated to the receiving
  6. Work as part of the school team and assist with creating a safe and orderly environment that is conducive to educational
  7. Attend assigned trainings and school related meetings/activities including, but not limited to, field trips, family dinners, school-related events with students/families, conferences and parent
  8. Assist students in setting up college/career visits or participation in dual enrollment/EMC/post -secondary enrollment.
  9. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Transition Coordinator:

  1. Assist the teacher in monitoring and helping students complete their post-secondary visioning plans and/or EDP plans.
  2. Participate in the Behavior Intervention Plan writing and review process with other staff, the student, their family, and other community members, as needed (e.g., PO officers, etc.)
  3. Able to assist the teacher in the classroom by helping students individually, in small groups, or with the entire group of students.
  4. Identify and implement incentives and motivation enhancement approaches with the students to encourage positive behavior and academic achievement.
  5. Ability to be detail-oriented and organized, for example, to be able to assist classrooms in using the career exploration system, track student progress, think ahead to the needs of the students and classroom, etc.
  6. Connect with KCTC/KTC and any other job sites of students on his/her caseload. Arrange for student transportation to and from KCTC/KTC.
  7. Report in team meetings on career planning of students, EMC and/or dual enrollment plans, as needed.
  8. Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or competence required.

 

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor degree or combination of post-secondary course work and work experience in education, criminal justice, social work and/or human services, preferred. Demonstrated experience working with at-risk students and families, required.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematic Skills: Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft and/or Google applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: N/A

 

Training: Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.

 

Other Qualifications: Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.
