**Child Passenger Safety Assistant | Guest Services Specialist**

**UF Health Shands Hospital - Gainesville**

Under the direction of the Director of Child Life Services, facilitates a welcoming and supportive environment for patients and families in pediatric and mother/baby inpatient units. Functions as a liaison between patients, families, visitors and staff to facilitate the highest level of patient satisfaction. Orients and supports patients/families regarding hospital environment, amenities and resources. Facilitates (during welcome desk coverage) family/visitor access to pediatric units to maintain safe environment. Provides leadership and facilitates community visits and events to the benefit of patients/families and to promote satisfaction of community. Assists in implementing child life services by supporting playroom, children's garden and bedside activities for pediatric patients and their families. Maintains a safe and organized environment; orients and supervises volunteers; and assists with special events, in-kind donations and community visitors. Collaborates with Child Life staff and volunteers to maximize patient/family access to recreational activities. Responsible for enhancing unit environment while meeting regulatory requirements and maintaining survey readiness. Proactively facilitates communication and problem resolution between unit staff, other departments and the patient/family.

**Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:**

* High school diploma and core college coursework in child development preferred.

* Early childhood/elementary education or a related field; associate's degree preferred.

* One year (full-time equivalent) of childcare or teaching experience with children in a group setting. Paid or volunteer experience with children in a health care setting preferred.

* Child development knowledge and skills (infants through adolescents), group supervision skills and play and recreational activity planning and facilitation skills preferred.

* Certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician preferred.

* Demonstrated excellence in public contact skills (respect for others, courteous, tactfulness).

* Demonstrated ability to problem solve, prioritize and display initiative and dependability.

* Ability to accept direction and interact with others as a team member is essential.

* Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

* Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work independently.

* Demonstrated computer experience.

* Proficient in reading and writing.

**Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:**

Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a "non-frequent driver."

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

**Licensure/Certification/Registration:**

* Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

**Minimum Pay Rate -** Hourly: $13.55

**Midpoint Pay Rate -** Hourly: $16.18
